UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar informed that students with four-year undergraduate degrees can now directly appear for NET and pursue a PhD, provided they have a minimum 75% marks or equivalent grades in their UG course. UGC-NET is an exam to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the “award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as assistant professor”, “appointment as assistant professor and admission to PhD” and “admission to PhD only” in Indian universities and colleges.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will revise the syllabus for the National Eligibility Test (NET). The UGC had last initiated the process to update the syllabi of UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) subjects in 2017. “However, after launching the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, there have been considerable developments in higher education to impart multidisciplinary curricula and holistic education,” Those students appearing for NET will get sufficient time before its implementation.
